A group of people with YOPD (Young Onset Parkinson's Disease) came together at the 5th World Parkinson Congress in Kyoto to discuss the issues unique to those with YOPD such as working with PD, raising young families or taking care of elderly parents. Two of the people at that meeting, Larry Gifford (Canada) and Rebecca Miller (USA), were inspired from that interaction to raise money to create a travel grant fund specifically for other YOPD to be able to also experience the WPC.

This unique PwP designed and PwP led fundraiser launched on January 1, 2020. While the COVID-19 situation put the fundraising on hold from March - May, it picked up again in June and is now going strong with in total 26 two-week fundraisers hosted on FB by people with YOPD from around the globe.

Because this was so popular, and will ultimately change the lives of the YOPD who receive the travel grant funds, we will continue this into 2021. Whether you are newly diagnosed YOPD or you were diagnosed with YOPD decades ago, we'd would love to have your help get more YOPD to WPC 2022. If you are interested, contact the WPC at eli@worldpdcoalition.org

The WPC has a long history of delegates helping other delegates attend the meeting. We are thrilled to support this incredible group of Parkinson advocates in their effort to help other YOPD make it to WPC 2022. The World Parkinson Congress is the only high level totally inclusive scientific meeting to bring together physicians, scientists, nurses, rehab specialists, care partners, and people with Parkinson's (PWPs).

The PwPs who attend the congress return to their communities more aware and more engaged. PwP have a profound impact both at the congress itself and in their communities. In fact, without the PwP involvement, scientists and other researchers could not do their work. The WPC salutes this group and thanks them for their service and their vision for a better future.
