Background
Tom Isaacs, founder of Cure Parkinson's Trust and person with Parkinson's, suggested the idea of an ambassador program comprised of people living with Parkinson's going out in to their communities to raise awareness of the meeting and convey the importance of bringing all factions of the Parkinson's community together. Since the launch of the program in 2012, thirty-three people have served as WPC ambassadors. They have all left their mark on the congress through their creativity, knowledge and passion for the meeting. Everyone brings something different to the role. Although there are some things that we ask everyone to do, we encourage ambassador to bring their unique insights and skills to decide how they can best make their impact.We are looking for up to 15 Ambassadors to work with us as we plan for the 6th World Parkinson Congress (WPC 2022) to take place in Barcelona, Spain from June 6 – 10, 2022.

About the Ambassador Program
WPC Ambassadors act as an extension of the World Parkinson Coalition and represent the WPC in an official manner with great respect for the organization.

Requirements for WPC Ambassadors
  • Must have attended at least one past WPC;
  • Must have strong social media skills and be active on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other outlets as they emerge;
  • Must speak and read English well enough to communicate;
  • Must be friendly and outgoing, able to communicate well with members of the PD community, and like engaging with people;
  • Should be well connected with his/her local, regional, or national Parkinson’s community.
  • For those willing and able, optional travel opportunities from time to time may arise. These are never mandatory and are only approved if the location, expenses, and timing is right for the Ambassador living nearest to the event.
  • Term of Position: Two years six months (February 2020 – August 2022)

*Note: It is expected that WPC Ambassadors participate fully in the Congress. Should you be offered this role, you are required to participate leading up to the Congress and during the Congress, therefore you will agree to not organize or accept invitations to participate in side meetings that conflict with the WPC program during the week of the WPC. While onsite, Ambassadors are fully engaged in WPC needs and unable to exhibit for or represent other organizations.

Ambassadors are expected to participate in the following:
  • Help strategize an outreach plan to maximize attendance at the Congress;
  • Promote the WPC on the internet whenever and wherever appropriate;
  • Search out promotional opportunities in your region/city/country where you can promote the WPC online or in-person;
  • Brain storm ideas and search out best promotional outlets for WPC. Even if this means just doing the groundwork for someone else, it’s incredibly helpful to start the process and make the right contacts;
  • Encourage PD groups around the world to start planning to bring a delegation and advise these groups on creative ways to raise money to pay for the delegations’ trip. You should help take the lead in your own country, to plan group to attend WPC 2022;
  • Attend events where you can host a WPC booth or informational table;
  • Join in periodic teleconference calls with other Ambassadors;
  • Post your WPC activities/photos on the WPC FB page so others around the globe know what’s going on in their country/region;
  • Act as connectors in the community, bringing together people who should know about the WPC and connecting them before, during, and after the WPC takes place including PwPs, health professionals, researchers etc;
  • Attend the WPC for all days of the Congress;
  • Take turns staffing the WPC booth at the WPC 2022;
  • When appropriate help grade abstracts;
  • When appropriate, guide a poster tour;

Each Ambassador will receive:
