A group of people with YOPD (Young Onset Parkinson's Disease) at the 5th World Parkinson Congress in Kyoto spontaneously came together to discuss the issues unique to those with YOPD such as working with PD, raising young families or taking care of elderly parents. Two of the people who attended that meeting, Larry Gifford (Canada) and Rebecca Miller (USA), decided that they wanted to raise money to create a travel grant fund specifically for other YOPD to be able to also experience the WPC. Larry and Rebecca along with 24 other YOPD from around the world will be hosting 26 two-week fundraisers via Facebook starting January 1, 2020 and ending on December 31, 2020.

They are still looking for a few more people with YOPD join the gang of 26, so whether you are newly diagnosed or you were diagnosed with young onset decades ago, they would love to have your help get more YOPD to WPC 2022. If you are interested, contact the WPC at kathleen@worldpdcoalition.org

The World Parkinson Congress has a long history of delegates helping other delegates attend the meeting. We are thrilled to support this incredible group of Parkinson advocates in their effort to help other YOPD make it to WPC 2022. The World Parkinson Congress is the only high level totally inclusive scientific meeting to bring together physicians, scientists, nurses, rehab specialists, care partners, and people with Parkinson's (PWPs).

The PwPs who attend the congress return to their communities and educate the public, start support groups, write blogs, establish exercise classes, while others push for research funding and engage in other advocacy work. PwP have a profound impact both at the congress itself and in their communities. In fact, without the PwP involvement, scientists and other researchers could not do their work, so the WPC salutes this group and thanks them for their service and their vision for a better future.
